You might already know that Leaky gut syndrome is also known as increased intestinal permeability which means that for a number of reasons the wall of your intestine has become irritated and inflamed. The purpose of the mucous lining is to allow nutrients to be absorbed by the body via the bloodstream. When the wall is damaged it fails to function efficiently therefore leaking toxins into your system. These toxins may include bacteria, fungi, parasites, undigested food particles and fat. This triggers your immune system to respond in many ways.
Your Immune System
The immune system is constantly working throughout the body providing barriers to threats for example viruses. We often only notice the immune system when it fails, it is struggling for some reason or we see the side effects. An example of this would be the inflammation around a cut or insect bite.
A large portion of your immune system is located in and around your digestive tract; this is referred to as GALT or gut-associated lymphatic tissues which protect you from allergy-causing food antigens and disease-carrying microbes. This lymphatic tissue is located in the lining of the digestive tract and in the intestinal mucus.
Your body builds an attack response to the leaking of toxins or certain food particles and you find allergies or food sensitivities occurring. The body’s antibodies will attack these food particles and trigger an allergic response whenever it encounters the same food. This results in a decline in your health.
With leaky gut, harmful substances can gain access to your blood stream and travel far and wide throughout the body causing the many symptoms of leaky gut syndrome often beginning with intestinal gas and stomach cramps, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, exhaustion, waking up not feeling refreshed, not coping with life stress, difficulty concentrating and generally feeling that you are only operating at 50%.
Numerous people complain of poor immunity, bladder and vaginal infections which temporarily go away only to return. Chronic joint and muscle pain, and skin rashes all add to the growing list as the condition remains unchecked. The more serious conditions can be gluten intolerance, acne, pancreatitis, dermatitis and septicemia.
Because it was food that started your leaky gut syndrome we will begin by eliminating some foods but adding others.
One of the easiest ways to overcome your suffering once you know you have leaky gut is to change your diet and feel confident that you are going to improve your health. Begin by eliminating certain food for a month but make sure you record the results no matter how small the change may be. Use a dedicated journal. Note: this health journal becomes a very valuable document if you revisit your doctor.
Step One:

Foods that typically give people digestive problems are dairy products, foods with yeast, caffeine, chocolate, bananas, strawberries and some citrus fruits.
